How to Use NLP and Who Uses It?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is extremely popular in the self-help, therapy, sports, education, coaching, performance and corporate worlds where it is learnt through nlp coaching. In fact it is used in so many areas of life that it would probably easier to list where it isn’t used!

How to Use NLP

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is used to enhance performance, to help an individual control their emotional state and to stay focussed on what they want from life. It incorporates specific Neuro-Linguistic Programming strategies and techniques designed to produce specific outcomes. For example, the famous Neuro-Linguistic Programming “Fast Phobia Cure” has a very different set of techniques in comparison with the Neuro-Linguistic Programming “Motivation Strategy.”

In short, Neuro-Linguistic Programming allows people to have more choices about their lives. For that reason, Dr Bandler, the inventor of the term “Neuro-Linguistic Programming”, likes to say that “most of all, Neuro-Linguistic Programming is about freedom”.

How Did Neuro-Linguistic Programming Begin?

In the late 1960s Richard Bandler was a computer science undergraduate at the University of California with an interest in psychotherapy. He noticed how ineffective most therapists were, but noticed that there were a few who got results. These were Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls. He and colleague John Grinder closely studied them, and realised that the supposed “intuition” both used in their work had a structure. From this study of the conscious and unconscious behaviour of the therapist Neuro-Linguistic Programming grew.
